Floating through space

Title is from a song by Spiritualized. I don't actually particularly like the song because all the lines overlap and you can't make out what they are without trying really hard but I just loved that line "Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating through space"

This picture will become the first panel of my online comic, Purebred Hitchhikers. (it has context & will make sense once I've actually done the comic)

They are Turritopsis nutricula (Turritopsis dohrnii) also known as an 'immortal jellyfish' they got this nickname because, after reaching sexual maturity, if they find themselves in danger they can go into a state where all their cells change, this means nerve cells could change into muscle cells etc. and they basically become baby jellyfish again. They can do this process indefinitely meaning they have the possible potential to 'live forever'.

Pretty epic right?

Their DNA has a large part in the story and allows my babies characters to survive a journey through space which would take thousands of years. So when they get old or injured they (should) be able to 'regenerate themselves'. {In the comic I will touch on this but not go into depth; I will also skip out the bits when they are regenerating because a comic made purely of unidentifiable blobs would not be very entertaining. But when they are regenarting there is another crew of clones identical to themselves. The two crews take it in turns to regenerate. The comic will only focus on the one crew.
